Rubbing alcohol-
Rubbing alcohol may kill any bacteria that are present on the skin. It does not help in keeping the sebaceous glands open or reduce the sebum production. It is not advised to treat acne by rubbing alcohol.
Is acne contagious?
No. Acne is not contagious. Acne is not caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi that can be passed on from one person to another.
Is Acne on body different than on face?
There is no difference at all between acne on face and acne on the upper arms or trunk. Acne is a disease of sebaceous glands. As the glands all over the body are same, acne is also same.
Cosmetics-
Cosmetics can cause acne. Use non - comedogenic cosmetics.
Is every bump acne?
No. Many other skin problems mimic acne. Keratosis Pilaris, Rosacea and Folliculitis look like acne.
Can dirt cause acne-?
Dirt plays no role in acne formation. The black color of blackheads is due to the oxidized sebum.
Sweating does not cure acne-
Sweating does not cure acne. It only cleans the body.
Food and acne connection-
It was found in one study that those who eat low glycemic index food develop less acne.
Acne scars fade over time?
No. acne scars are permanent changes in the skin. They do not fade away as that is not color.
Hereditary -
If your parents had acne, you may be more prone to it. Acne can be hereditary.
Medicines-
Medicines may cause acne. Some cortisones, few anti-tuberculosis drugs and some anti-epileptic drugs cause acne. Chlorinated solvents can also cause occupational acne.
